We are officially open!
During various trips to Africa, Dr. Timothy McKinney was introduced to significant women’s health issues and helped establish the non-profit, International Organization for Women and Development, Inc. (IOWD), aiming to provide and improve women's health care in third-world countries. Founded in 2003, IOWD initiated medical missions in Niger, conducting over 1,000 surgeries and training local surgeons until political instability halted operations. The work continues successfully in Rwanda and Ghana, with self-sustaining programs underway. Dr. McKinney, inspired by his anatomy professor Dr. Rao during his early medical education in Grenada, has pioneered various surgical techniques and invented tools essential for surgical procedures and patient care in the U.S.
Recognizing the need for a women’s health clinic in Grenada, he gained support from Grenadian officials and medical professionals. The proposed clinic, funded initially by Dr. McKinney, aims to bring volunteer medical professionals to offer care and perform surgeries, while also training local health workers in urogynecological and pelvic floor skills. The clinic will provide a range of minimally invasive gynecological and urogynecological surgeries and preventive care services. Operating from the GIDC Frequente campus, it is envisioned to evolve into a self-sustaining program, offering paid services for locals to support its operations and partnering with St. George’s University students and local OB/GYNs for continuous service provision. With a collaborative and educational approach, the initiative aims to address and resolve challenging health issues faced by women in Grenada.
He served as Chief of Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery at UMDNJ/SOM, Pennsylvania SOM, and Drexel SOM, contributing to the creation of the board-certified subspecialty of FPMRS (Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery). Actively involved in Minimally Invasive Surgery and AAGL, he is a widely published Key Opinion Leader and innovator in fields ranging from Urology/Urogynecology to Trauma Surgery and Laparoscopic Surgery. Notably, he invented laparoscopic access Trochars for J&J and the T-DOC “air charged” Catheter technology, among other influential contributions, and co-founded T-DOC, LLC.com®, growing it into a global company with over 700 employees, commanding over 90% of the US urodynamic diagnostic market.
